#WeekendWritingWarriors #SnippetSunday - Glyn's problem just got worse!

Hello fellow snippeteers!

I'm continuing snippets from the draft of my current 'work in progress' a fantasy novel 'The Matchmaker's Mare' which takes place in Wales. The  story is told from three p.o.vs. and two time-lines. Today's excerpt is again in Glyn's P.O.V.

(This is only a rough draft to give the gist of the novel, and is subject to change and edits!)

Don't forget to visit the other authors at the link below, there's something for all tastes.

Glyn leaned over the fence as the chestnut mare snorted, leapt stiff-legged high in the air, then exploded in a series of bone-shattering leaps and bucks with a violence that would have done justice to a rodeo bronc. All at once she ceased her furious bucking, and stood absolutely still, eyes white-rimmed and wild, body trembling. Dai managed to leap clear in the moment before the pony collapsed and lay down on her back in the muddy field, then got up and shook the dirt off himself like a wet dog.

“Da iawn—well done. That was a close one Dai, you okay?”

“I dunno where this one came from, Glyn,” Dai said, scrambling to his feet and scowling in the pony’s direction, “but I reckon she’s cursed. She may look like an angel when she’s standin’ in a field, but she’s a demon when you get on her, that she is. If the devil has a horse, this must be it, you mark my words.”

“Well don’t take any more chances with her Dai, I don’t want to risk you getting injured.”

“Don’t worry, I’m not goin’ to,” he muttered, slapping at the mud on his jeans, with a few more choice words. As he walked across the field, he stopped and looked toward the gate leading out of the yard and Glyn followed his gaze. A dark red four-by-four had just driven through, and a young woman with long, nut-brown hair tied back in a ponytail, jumped out, shut the gate after her and came across the yard toward the paddocks

For Info: I still have a few audio codes for each of the three books in the Destiny Trilogy. If you would like one, or all three, just let me know with your email address at Lyn@hywelalyn.co.uk and I'll send you the ones you request, (Each book has its own code). If could manage to post a short review after you've listened, that would be greatly appreciated. 😍

Weekend Writing Warriors Snippet Sunday - meet Glyn who has a problem!

Hello fellow snippeteers!

I'm continuing snippets from the draft of my current 'work in progress' a fantasy novel 'The Matchmaker's Mare' which takes place in Wales. The  story is told from three p.o.vs. and two time-lines. Today's excerpt is in Glyn's P.O.V.  and is our first glimpse of him.. and he has a bit of a problem. (Adjusted from original to conform with ten sentence rule.)

(This is only a rough draft to give the gist of the novel, and is subject to change and edits!)

Glyn  knew was something odd about the chestnut pony when it appeared in one of his paddocks from nowhere. At first he thought she was one of the semi-wild ponies that roamed the mountains. They were all owned by someone and usually freeze branded or micro-chipped, but this one had no owner’s mark on her and his scanner revealed no micro-chip.

He contacted the Police, the Welsh Pony and Cob Society, the local pony club, riding club, and everyone in his E-mail lists, and posted her picture on Facebook and Instagram but no-one reported losing a chestnut cob type pony mare.

“She’s pretty little thing, with that distinctive star on her face, but what am I going to do with her?” he said to Evan Thomas— friend, groom and general handyman, who broke in all the young horses for him. “I can’t sell her or breed from her since she doesn’t legally belong to me.”

“Look Glyn, why don’t you just let me put a saddle on her an’ let’s see what she goes like?”

Glyn hesitate - at six foot, he was too tall himself for a mare her size, and he knew of no-one, other than Evan, who was light enough and competent enough to handle her if she proved difficult.

“I’m not sure about that, Evan, there’s no telling if she’s broken to ride, although she’s let me halter her and lead her around, but she spooks at her own shadow and seems a bit temperamental.”

He glanced over at the mare standing in a corner of the paddock. She stamped her foot and shook her head so her long mane flowed around her like a halo, almost as if she knew they were talking about her.

Weekend Writing Warriors Snippet Sunday ... it was about time she met her nearest neighbour

Hello lovely snippeteers!

I'm continuing snippets from the draft of my current 'work in progress' a fantasy novel 'The Matchmaker's Mare' which takes place in Wales. The  story is told from three p.o.vs. and two time-lines. Today's excerpt is  still Megan's p.o.v. and is a few paragraphs on from the last one She has just inherited Ty Gwyn cottage from her uncle, and has started a a new job as a veterinary receptionist, a marked change to her previous job as an administator for a firm of London Estate Agents. (This is only a rough draft to give the gist of the novel, and is subject to change and edits!)

Don't forget to visit the other authors at the link below the excerpt, there's something for all tastes.

Megan paid several visits to the village shop and speaking to the chatty shopkeeper, got to know about some of the locals. Her nearest neighbour, apparently, was a Mr Phillips, a horse breeder and dealer, who had bought the nearby Hafod farm about three years previously and lived there with his young son. She passed Hafod Farm her way into the village and had noticed several horses grazing in the well-kept paddocks, so it was interesting to know who owned the place

Catrin, and Bethan, who also helped out on the reception desk, were happy to show her the ropes. There was a special area in the small dispensary where prescriptions were stored as soon as they were filled, ready for collection. As she sorted the various prescriptions one lunchtime, she noticed there was a packet of anti-inflammatory analgesic powders, with the name
Glyn Phillips, Hafod Farm, printed on it.

“I drive past the farm on my way home, why don’t I just deliver this myself?” she suggested to Mair.

“Well I was going to suggest you phone him and tell him it’s ready, so he can come in to collect it himself, but if you’re going that way you might as well just drop it off, if it’s no trouble like.”

“No, of course not, as I said, I have to go past the farm.”
She’d been living at Ty Gwyn for six weeks now, it was about time she met her closest neighbour.
