Ax and Izzy are ascending the walkway into the belly of the ship, and I trail behind them. A welcome, familiar face is waiting to greet me at the top of the steps. Fern leans against the railing, her usual sunny face obscured behind a blanket of worry. Spotting me, she brightens for a nanosecond until she takes in my transparent ‘prisoner’ status. 

She skips toward us with purpose. “What the hell?” She pierces Haydn with a murderous glare, planting her hands on her slim hips. 

“Don’t. Interfere.” He growls out a warning as he pushes past her, hauling me along for the ride. 

I shrug my shoulders as I eyeball my friend. “Don’t ask me for an explanation. No one is even speaking to me.” 

“This is completely ridiculous, and totally unnecessary,” Fern yells as she stalks behind us like a miniature tornado. 

“Babe,” Rylan says, stalling on the steps above us. “Let’s just get to the cabin and we’ll clear everything up.”

Haydn snorts and shakes his head. I deliberately impale him with my penetrating gaze, willing him to look at me so he can absorb the full glare of my frustration. But he’s as stubborn as ever, and he pretends not to feel my eyes burning a hole through the side of his skull. As I continue to stare at him—noting the ashen pallor of his skin, and how his once shorn hair has grown out, now curling and twisting around his ears and over his neck—I wonder if I’ve ever really known him at all. Or if he has ever truly known me.
Because if he did, he would know not to fear me. That there’s no need to treat me like this.

Half way through the year...

I can't believe it's June already! Time for barbecues and lazing (I mean writing) in the sun. Long, cold drinks and ice cream, suntops and shades...hols on a moment though - this might be true for my friends in the US, but over here in the UK, after an unseasonably warm sprint,  it's distinctly chilly! In fact we had to have the heating on this evening.  I have lots of little plants I'm bringing on in my coldframe outside, but it's hardly been the weather for planting. I think the plants are actually big enough to survive, it's just me that didn't fancy spending time on my knees on the damp grass beneath a glowering grey sky. Ah well, they've forecast warmer weather for next week.  Let's hope they're righ!.

Famous and Alecander had just reached the trees when another man jumped from the vehicle to the ground. He reached overhead to grab the rifle from the marksman as another gideon approached at top speed. I turned and joined Alecander and Famous as they rode through the woods dodging trees, bushes, and branches. Gunshots whizzed through the woods. A sizzling sound zipped by my left ear and gouged a hole the size of my fist in a nearby tree. I had heard of the “Bleeding Heart” but never witnessed it in action. It was designed to take out an enemy’s heart. I quickly decided to run in a zig-zag pattern through the forest to make it more of a challenge to hit me. This was not easy to do as I had to avoid trees and foliage. I knew they would pursue us until they killed us. My only concern was how long I could elude them. Why did they want us dead?
