SNIPPET
"My lord, have I not already done my duty - did I not travel to every corner of the world and inspire men and women to dance and rejoice? Have I not made the journey whenever a mortal has been in need of my gift of inspiration, and gladdened the hearts of mankind? Can I be blamed if some prefer to fight and wage war and then forget the joys of living?"
Apollo's countenance grew even grimmer. "So many questions, no, 'tis not your doing—but would you refuse the task?"
Terpsichore sighed and shook her head, "of course not, you know well that neither I nor my sister muses may deny our vocation, the need to inspire cannot be ignored."
Apollo curved his lips in a smile once more, and light radiated from his face, illuminating the shadows around him. "It is well; you will need to use subtlety, though. Times have changed since you were last there, it would be better for you to take the form of a mortal."
"What—give up my immortality?"
BLURB

Sounds like an interesting mission already. Intriguing!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jessica!
ReplyDelete"What..." Now that is asking an awful lot. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt is, but Apollo has his reasons.
DeleteCurious why she's so reluctant to take up the challenge. Has she lost heart in her vocation?
ReplyDeleteShe's become a bit complacent with her life on Olympus and thought she'd done everything required of her, as far as the mortals on Earth are concerned.
DeleteInteresting snippet. I think she's worn out from doing his bidding. Poor girl needs a little down time.
ReplyDeleteThere's that as well, apart from providing inspiration to the peoples of Earth, the muses were also required to sing and dance for Apollo, and their parents, and it must have beem quite exhausting. :)
DeleteSeems as if there's always a catch when the Big Name Gods need a job done, yes? Nice touch and I very much enjoyed their further conversation. Now I'm all worried for her!
ReplyDeleteThanks Veronica, yes, there's always a catch but Apollo knows more than he's letting on!
DeleteFascinating story. I'm curious what she'll do.
ReplyDeleteThanks Diane - more next week!
DeleteMortal form? That will certainly make things interesting for her, and probably more challenging too!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! Thanks for stopping by, Christina.
DeleteThis snippet raises a harp-load of questions. For example, when she takes up human form, does she relinquish her immortality forever, or temporarily?
ReplyDeleteFind out next week, Ed! :)
DeleteSounds like that may be a bridge too far for her to go. If she relinquishes her immortality, will it be given back when she leaves earth? That would make all the difference!
ReplyDeleteIt certainly would - and that's what's worrying her at the moment!
ReplyDeleteHe just keeps piling on the 'heck no' doesn't he?
ReplyDeleteLoL Caitlin, that's Apollo for you! :)
DeleteOf course there was a catch. Great snippet as always.
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen - yes, there's always a catch, as you say!
