(This is the last snippet I'll be posting from Rhiannon's P.O.V.) Next time It will be characters from the present time. I probably won't be posting next week as I will probably be away for a few days and won't have internet but I'll read snippets when I get back)
Don't forget to visit the other authors at the link below the excerpt, there's something for all tastes.
Snippet:
At last they were free,
and turning away from the treacherous forest, they remounted and ploughed
through the snow along the narrow track up the precipitous mountainside.
However, the delay had cost them precious minutes, and soon their pursuer was
upon them…
“Make for the woods,” Sion yelled, turning his horse in the direction of
a thick forest, that covered the lower slopes of the steep mountain range known
as Mynyddoedd y Ddraig—The Dragon
Mountains. “Perhaps we can lose him in the trees.”
They leaned low over their horses’ necks, urging them on as fast as they
dared. Both the horses were swift
and sure-footed, but the deep snow made it impossible for them to increase the
distance between them and their pursuer.
They had to slow their mounts again in order to wend their way through
the trees, scarcely able to see through the snow which fell thickly around
them, but Gwynfor Pryce cast a spell over the forest. The trees the lovers
thought would hide them turned traitor, stretching out their branches to twine
around the horses’ legs. They threw themselves from their saddles, and Sion
hacked at the branches with his dagger, while Rhiannon tore at them with
ice-cold fingers.

This dude is going to be impossible to shake if he can sorcel the environment to trap them!
ReplyDeleteAn exciting chase!
ReplyDeleteThanks Aurora!
DeleteAaaaah! The cliffhanger--and you won't be posting next week???
ReplyDeleteIt's all good. I'll be buying this one as soon as it's published.
I hope you have a wonderful time away!
Aw, thanks Teresa, It will be nice to get away for a few days, but I'll be back by the weekend and hopefully will be posting from the current day's heroine's p.o.v. How lovely of you to say you'll buy it when it's published -fingers crossed my publisher will like it!
DeleteWOW! What a rush. Will they survive or what! Enjoy your trip, my friend.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Charmaine!
DeleteLove the imagery in this snippet! I can easily picture the tree branches twining around them. Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Julie, glad you enjoyed it.
DeleteWell that was exciting and unexpected, the way the spell worked, glad they fought free. This is really an intense story - great snippet!
ReplyDeleteHi Veronica - thanks so much!
DeleteThat is some adversary if he can bend the trees to his will. I hope their luck changes when he overtakes them--that's what it looked like at the very end. I sense quite a fight ahead. Exciting snippet!
ReplyDeleteYes, there is a fight - but it's not described until later in the book - I actually leave the reader hanging there for a while (wicked cackle!)
DeleteAn exciting race! Wow. Great snippet.
ReplyDeleteThanks Diane!
DeleteThey're in a bad situation. Seems like they're not going to get away.
ReplyDeleteIt's looking that way - they don't stand a lot of chance against a powerful and evil mage really!
DeleteThey don't seem to have a chance of escape. Great imagery!
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen, they will certainly be lucky to get away!
DeleteJust love fantasy, Hywela, especially with a Welsh setting - the natural home of Sir Gawain, the Green Man, and of course, Arthur. Magical ❤️
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm so glad you mentioned Sir Garwain and Arthur etc. - and of course the mystical Merlin (I visited the remains of Merlin's oak in Carmarthen,it was poisoned back in 1856, but the stump was removed and is now in Carmarthenshire County museum.) I actually combined Arthurian and Greek legends in my novella 'Dancing With Fate' set in 5th century Wales!
