“Huw—Huw my boy, what are you doing - hand the reins to me, son, gently now, don’t startle her.”

He shook his head and rolled his eyes in exasperation -
“I’m sorry,” he said, reluctant to appear discourteous, but desperate to make sure the boy didn’t get injured, “I’d better go and make sure he’s all right with that pony."
“Of course I’ll be on my way then, goodnight, Mr Phillips.”
she said, turning to cross the yard back to her vehicle, with a quick wave of her hand.
Glyn sprinted toward the stables, he needed to make sure Huw didn’t get hurt by that wretched pony. At the same time he cursed himself for his abrupt dismissal of Megan Johnson; poor woman, she must think he was completely neurotic, but Huw was his only son, after all, and he couldn’t help being protective.

The pony seems to like kids haha.
ReplyDeleteI guess he didn't make such a good first impression on Megan though.
You're right there, Linda, the pony is a bit special and like a lot of equines tends to trust children more than adults! As for Megan, well actually she's a bit smitten though she doesn't want to admit it.
DeleteI like the way you frame his dilemma - keep talking to the nice lady or watch out for his son - great snippet!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely,Veronica, you hit the nail on the head!
ReplyDeleteIt'll be interesting to get Megan's reactions. How much does she understand and what does she get wrong?
ReplyDeleteAll sort of things are going on in her mind at the moment, Wd! :)
DeleteMaybe the mare will become the son's horse. Megan didn't seem angry with him, but I bet she thought he was beyond rude.
ReplyDeleteIt's looking that way Elaine! No, Megan didn't think he was rude, she could understand his concern for his young son after the way the mare behaved with Evan - but Glyn is feeling very guilty and hoping she didn't think him 'beyond rude'! :)
DeleteI love how you showed how torn he was about tending to his son's safety or continuing to talk to Megan. I'm curious about the pony not being afraid or skittish around his son. Intrigued to know more. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for signing up for the End of the Road Tour. :)
I'm glad that came across Michele, looking forward to being a host on your tour
Deletea bit of a dilemma he had there, look after his son or talk to Megan ... interesting snippet.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, he doesn't want to appear rude but he is desperate to keep his son safe!
DeleteOmg, that reminded me so much of my old gelding. Only a few could ride that old boy.
ReplyDeleteI can totally understand his concern for his son, but I think Huw will be fine and I'm sure Megan also understands.
Hi Aldrea - thanks so much for stopping by and commenting. Yes, some of these ponies can be real characters and very choosy about who rides them, I bet your old gelding had some great tricks up his sleeve!
ReplyDeleteI imagine Megan understands.
ReplyDeleteSome people have a way with animals, and Huw seems to have clicked with the wild pony. :-D
Yes, she does - and you[re so rght about some people havig a way with animals - and some animals respond better to children than adults. Thanks so much for visiting and commenting.
