BACKGROUND:
Having fulfilled the mission set by Apollo, Terpsichore the muse of dance is preparing to return to Olympus when she meets the mysterious Myrddin. She is lured towards a host of glimmering, evil red lights, and although she senses the danger, she is now without her powers and has no means of resisting them. Myrddin rescues her and holds her in his arms. They kiss and he releases her swiftly, for he is betrothed to another This leads directly on from last week's snippet ..."Forgive me. It was just...I was so relieved the Ellylldan didn't take you."
SNIPPET (As always, please forgive the creative punctuation to comply with the ten sentence rule.)
"Take me where - and who are the Ellylldan?"
"Goblin fire," he dropped her hands, put an arm lightly around her shoulder, and led her back to the campfire. He poked it with a stick until it flared up and she drew closer to the heat, "the Ellylldan lure the unwary into the bog land, those who follow them are never seen again." He paused,"of course, you are not from these parts, so you would not have heard of them."
"I had the sense of evil...an evil older than time itself."
Myrddin nodded, "they are certainly an ancient evil...and not confined to Cymru either. They appear in different guises in all four corners of the world."
Terpsichore wondered how he knew so much, it seemed, however, there was a lot about Myrddin she did not know. She wrinkled her nose as the heat from the fire dried the mud on her clothes, producing a putrid smell.
"I think I should bathe and get rid of this mud."

I'm glad she's willing to admit she doesn't know everything she needs to. Great snippet, Hywela.
ReplyDeleteYes - and she's feeling a bit out of her depth and vulnerable in this situation, without her powers.
DeleteSounds like they're about to have an interesting adventure.
ReplyDeleteI think you're right, Jessica.
DeleteAnother exquisite snippet, my friend.
ReplyDeleteAw thanks, dear Charmaine, you are always so supportive x
DeleteInteresting revelations . . . but also fascinating in the sense that they reveal him to be more, perhaps, than he pretends to be. I like snippets with insinuations like this!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ed - yes there's a lot more to Myrddin than meets the eye, or that even he is quite aware of yet.
DeleteHe is polite as well as well-informed. A good companion.
ReplyDeleteYes,you're right, he is,Aurora.
DeleteSo interesting that even though she's a 'mythological' being herself, she doesn't automatically know about all the others in the world. I thought that was an excellent point. Really enjoyed the snippet!
ReplyDeleteThanks Veronica. Yes, this is a completely different world to the one she calls 'home'.
DeleteGreat snippet! I wonder if he will watch her bathe again. Sounds like they are going to have an adventure either way.
ReplyDeleteThey are, but Myrddin is too polite to peek - I think! :)
DeleteShe now realizes she doesn't know everything. Also gives more of an insight to how Myrddin does know this world.
ReplyDeleteShe needs a bath? Should prove interesting... :)
That's right, Karen - and yes, she really does need a bath! :)
DeleteEw. What's in the mud that makes is smell so bad? o.O
ReplyDeleteShe really likes baths, this lady.
Well, mud from a bog, that's heated up by the fire, does tend to smell a bit - and it doesn't help that it's tainted by fire demons. Yes, she loves the water, but then she's a water nymph as well as a muse!
DeleteYou think he'll offer to scrub he back?
ReplyDeleteHe can try! :)
DeleteA bath is the answer to everything! No peeking!
ReplyDeleteYou've got it, Nancy!
DeleteI wonder what’s causing the bad smell? She should definitely take a bath! ;-)
ReplyDeleteAs I mentioned earlier, hot mud and fire demon aura - yuck! :) You're right, she needs to clean up!
DeleteHmmm... is the jury out on whether he's a good guy or a bad guy?? Dennis the Menace said you could always tell who the good guy is because he wears a white hat. Does Myrddin wear a white hat?
ReplyDeleteAll I'm going to say is ... he doesn't wear a hat, (well not yet anyway) but if he did, it wouldn't be a black one! :)
DeleteHow does he know so much?
ReplyDeleteOh Myrddin is very wise, and very clever. He's got hidden talents too - remmember the blue fire that scared the firedemons away?
