#SundaySnippets, #WeekendWarriors, 'Dancing With Fate' "Goodbye Sal, I wish we could have been together longer."

BACKGROUND:
Having fulfilled the mission set by Apollo, Terpsichore the muse of dance is preparing to return to Olympus when she meets the mysterious Myrddin.  She is lured into a bog by the evil Ellilldan, the fire demons, without her powers, and has no means of resisting them. Myrddin rescues her and although there is a mutual attraction between the, Myrddin is betrothed to another. She goes off to wash away the smelly mud from the bog.

Last week's snippet ...

SNIPPET  (As always, please forgive the creative punctuation to comply with the ten sentence rule. Very slightly changed from the pulblished version.)

On the pretext of removing a clean set of clothing from her saddlebags, Terpsichore walked over to where the horses grazed on the rich grass.

"Goodbye Sal, I wish we could have been together longer."

She rubbed the mare's head and planted a soft kiss on her muzzle, then walked toward the falls without looking back.

A magnificent goshawk circled gracefully above her...a hawk, Apollo's messenger. As she watched, it swooped earthward to land on an old tree stump a short distance away.

"Terpsichore, do not return home yet; go with Myrddin, he is in great danger, although he does not know it."

"What sort of danger—and how can I help, I inspire men to dance, not to fight."

"I cannot tell you more, you will know soon enough, when the time comes. There is more at stake than one man's life, be watchful and above all, make sure he stays in this land, he must not cross the sea." The bird flapped its great wings and took to the skies.

I'm not sure if I'm going to post any  more snippets from this story, it's been going a while now. What do you think?

DANCING WITH FATE

When Terpsichore, the Muse of Dance, is assigned to revisit the land of Wales, her task seems simple enough. She is unaware there is a hidden agenda. Before she can return to Olympus her path crosses that of the mysterious Myrddin, and

her heart is lost. But Myrddin is promised to another. His mind is set on the dangerous task that lies before him, and the woman he has sworn to save. Nevertheless, he cannot deny the growing attraction between him and the beautiful stranger he meets along the way.

Terpsichore and Myrddin face a deadly force that threatens to part  them  forever. Is she destined to lose the only man she has ever truly loved? Is there nothing she can do to save him? Finally, when all seems lost, in desperation she finds herself DANCING WITH FATE.

The real Sal (not the best picture of her,
she was an old lady when this was taken,
but it does show off her lovely golden colour.)

    1. LOL, you're right about the danger and adventure - although it's not where Myrddin expects it to be.

    1. Yes, and she knows if Apollo sent the message she has to obey it.

    1. Yes, and the bird is probably less likely to 'freeze' or 'bounce'! LOL

  6. If the bird had been a crow, we could have called it a long-distance 'caw'l.... Bwah hah hah hah

  7. A message in the nick of time, but with more mysteries of course! Enjoyed the excerpt, why do I have a feeling the hero will be determined to cross the seas now LOL?

    1. Funny that, isn't it Veronica, whenever a main character is told not to do something, they go right ahead and do it! :)

  8. I wonder how she'll be expected to help? Maybe just keeping him from crossing the sea will be hard enough!

  10. I love all the imagery in this snippet. It's a stunning bit of writing.

You're girl is stunning, but I have a soft spot for buckskins. My old girl, Nagg, is a buckskin Hanoverian cross, though not that she's in her golden years, she no longer turns blonde.

    1. Thanks Jess, glad you enjoyed it - and it's great to meet another 'horsey' writer. Nagg sounds lovely. I love buckskins too, I used to ride Sal 'Western', and she looked lovely in black western tack. She worked her socks off for me doing endurance in Wales.

  12. Reading the comments I seem to be the only one wondering if Myrrdin is watching her talk to a hawk...
