This is the last excerpt I'm posting for a while. I need to concentrate on my current W.I.P. but I'll still keep in touch with my Sunday Snippets friends.

BACKGROUND:
Having fulfilled the mission set by Apollo, Terpsichore the muse of dance  is about to return to Olympus when she meets the mysterious Myrddin.  She is lured into a bog by the evil Ellilldan, the fire demons.Myrddin rescues her. Although there is a mutual attraction between them, Myrddin is betrothed to another and is on his way to rescue her from her kidnapper. Apollo has sent Terpsichore a message that Myrddin is in danger. In this excerpt, Myrddin at last reveals his relationship to his betrothed.

SNIPPET

You're telling me you were willing to marry a woman who meant nothing to you?"

Myrddin sighed. "Not exactly, it was a marriage arranged by our fathers when we were still children. We only met a few times; we didn't really know each other. Gwendolyn was right about that. But...she is very beautiful and I  thought I loved her. I really did."

Terpsichore wished more than ever she still had the power to read thoughts. The possibility he might no longer care for Gwendolyn, and be free to love her, was torture. Yet, did she really want to love a man who fell out of love so easily?

"I'm trying to understand, are you saying you no longer love her, even though you came all this way at risk of your life, to rescue her."

"It was my duty. "

Water toWater - Spotlight and character interview

Water to Water
by Karen A. Wyle
Genre: Science Fiction

Two young Vushla questioned what everyone knew about death. What should they do with the answer?
When the time comes for Vushla to die, they go into the ocean and are dissolved away. Or so Terrill has always believed, and still believes after taking part in his father's final journey. But when he meets a young Vushlu who lives by the sea, Terrill must confront information that calls this fundamental belief into question. Will the two of them discover the truth? And what should they do with what they find?

Character Interview with Honnu

[NOTE: Honnu is a young Vushlu. His family are fisher folk and live by the sea. This interview takes place around the time the story begins, on the beach, in late afternoon. Honnu is cleaning a fishing boat.]

Q. Hello. I hope I’m not disturbing –

A. Watch out! I’m using seawater here.

Q. It’s splashing all over you. Isn’t that a problem?

A. Not with this suit on. [He gestures along his body.] It’ll keep the water out for years and years yet.

Q. Do you have such suits for visitors? For rent, perhaps?

A. Sorry, no. They take a long time to make. We only get them when we’re done growing, and then we keep them for a long time. Let me just finish up here, and we can talk.

[a few minutes later]

All done! I have a few minutes before I go do chores.

Q. I gather you fish for a living.

A. That’s right.

Q. Do you like it?

A. [a slight pause] Pretty well. I like working with other people. More when they appreciate my help, which they mostly do. Of course, I like it better some days than others. In hot season, it’s cooler out on the water than on land – though the suit does make me warmer than I’d be otherwise. Cold season, that can get, well, cold, suit or no suit. And I get pretty tired by the end of the day. But it’s better than being bored. [another pause] Not that I’m never bored.

Q. Do you picture yourself doing anything different, later in your life?

A. [scuffs a hind foot in the sand] I’d like to see more of the world, someday, somehow. I hear stories – mainly from the Weesah peddler who comes here – and I want to see for myself whether they’re true, and what other stories might be out there waiting to be found.

[someone calls Honnu’s name from a nearby dwelling]

I’d better go. Chores, like I said. It was nice talking to you. If you want to come with me, you could maybe stay for dinner. The peddler brought sausages, and we’ll be having a campfire.

SundaySnippets, #WeekendWarriors, 'Dancing With Fate' - "Don't tell me because I'm a woman I don't know how to fight"

Hello fellow Snippeteers and readers.  Welcome to my Weekend Warriors post. I'm continuing  with another snippet from my fantasy novella, Dancing With Fate. Thank you to everyone who's been following my snippets so far, and been kind enough to comment. Sorry I didn't manage to get around as many blogs last week as I wanted to, it was a really busy week. I'll try to do better this time.

This is a few paragraphs on from
Last week's snippet ...

SNIPPET  (As always, please forgive the creative punctuation to comply with
the ten sentence rule. Very slightly changed from the published version.)

"I would like to see you safe before I fight Madog for the return of my betrothed."

"You needn't worry about me, I have my knife and my bow, I am well able to look after myself. Besides, I'm coming with you, you’ll need someone at your back."

There was such determination in those dark green eyes, Myrddin almost laughed. "Oh, you think I'm the one who needs looking after?"

"Probably, I owe you a favor, you saved me from the Ellylldan, I'll not let you fight alone. Don't tell me because I'm a woman I don't know how to fight, I expect I'm better trained in the use of a bow than you are."

"I don't doubt it," Myrddin replied, trying not to smile, and almost unconsciously, he put his hand on the light sword at his side. "We'll need to leave the horses here and approach the fort by stealth, I don't know how many guards Madog has posted, he must surely know I will come for Gwendolyn."

"Then it's even more important you don't go alone."

The New Lyons Sequence - Spotlight and #Giveaway

SINdrome
The New Lyons Sequence #3

by J.T. Nicholas

Genre: Science Fiction, Artificial Intelligence

Pub Date: 9/18/18

The Sickness unto Death
The Synth revolution has come at last. The supposedly synthetic beings humans crafted to do their dirty work for them have fully actualized their own humanity—and they no longer acquiesce in their enslavement. Victory in the struggle to tear down the institutions of oppression seems just a matter of time. But the halls of power are not so easily shaken—and a counterstrike is inevitable.

Former Detective Jason Campbell has ledged his life to the Synthetic cause. So when a mysterious virus starts wiping out Synths left and right—and shows signs of mutating to target everyone else—he must lead a race against time to prevent the outbreak of the most horrific plague the world has ever seen. If he succeeds, he’ll expose the moral bankruptcy of the depraved elites who will stop at nothing to

restore the old order. If he fails, it could mean the end of life on this planet. For both Synth and Human.

SINdicate
The New Lyons Sequence #2

The Post-Modern Prometheus

Synths

were manufactured to look human and perform physical labor, but they
were still only machines. That’s what the people who used—and
abused—them believed, until the truth was revealed: Synths are
independent, sentient beings. Now, the governments of the world must
either recognize their human nature and grant them their rightful
freedom, or brace for a revolution.

Former New Lyons Detective Jason Campbell has committed himself to the Synths’ cause, willing to fight every army the human race marches against them. But they have an even greater enemy in Walton Biogenics, the syndicate behind the creation and distribution of the

“artificial” humans. The company will stop at nothing to protect their secrets—and the near-mythological figure known to Synths as “The First,” whose very existence threatens the balance of power across the world . . .

The  New Lyons Sequence #1

The Artificial Evolution

They look like us. Act like us. But they are not human. Created to perform the menial tasks real humans detest, Synths were designed

with only a basic intelligence and minimal emotional response. It stands to reason that they have no rights. Like any technology, they
are designed for human convenience. Disposable. In the city of New Lyons, Detective Jason Campbell is investigating a

vicious crime: a female body found mutilated and left in the streets. Once the victim is identified as a Synth, the crime is designated no more than the destruction of property, and Campbell is pulled from the case.

But when a mysterious stranger approaches Campbell and asks him to continue his investigation in secret, Campbell is dragged into a dark world of unimaginable corruption. One that leaves him questioning the true nature of humanity. And what he discovers is only the beginning . . .

J.T. Nicholas was born in Lexington,

Virginia, though within six months he moved (or was moved, rather) to Stuttgart, Germany. Thus began the long journey of the military brat, hopping from state to state and country to country until, at present, he has accumulated nearly thirty relocations. This experience taught
him that, regardless of where one found oneself, people were largely the same. When not writing, Nick spends his time practicing a variety
of martial arts, playing games (video, tabletop, and otherwise), and reading everything he can get his hands on. Nick currently resides in Louisville, Kentucky, with his wife, a pair of indifferent cats, a neurotic Papillion, and an Australian Shepherd who (rightly) believes he is in charge of the day-to-day affairs.
