#WeWriWar, Snippet Sunday - Children Of The Mist: Vidarh is in trouble!

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warrior and 8 Sentence Sunday, the weekly hop for everyone who loves to read and write! We've got a variety of genres and talented writers just waiting for you to come sample their work.

Writers share an 8 to 10 sentence snippet on Sunday each week. Be sure to visit the other writers - they're listed below:

If you'd to share your own 8-10 sentence snippet, whether published or not, follow the link and sign up. It's a great community to be a part of!

I'm currently sharing excerpts from Children Of The Mist the second book in
The Destiny Trilogy. This is set on Niflheim, a planet close to the heart of Jess, who features in the first book. The heroine is one of her closeat friends, Tamarith.

Thanks so much to everyone who has been following this series, and left comments xx

This snippet carries on a bit further from last week's snippet which you can read

Vidarh is on his way to Gladsheim, the capital city of the icy planet Niflheim. A telepath, like all Nifls, he is being guided by Tamarith, through the treacherous mountain passages. (A little licence with punctuation to keep within the sentence limit.)

Vidarh noticed several gigantic, human-like statues on the banks as he passed, but had no time to contemplate or admire them. Rounding a bend, he came upon a wall of water ahead, cascading from the roof in a fury of white froth. The torrent boiled and raced. He gritted his teeth as he headed into the maelstrom, there was no way he could control the boat's frantic motions as it heaved and bucked like an unbroken colt. He threw down the paddle, gripped the sides of the vessel, and sent a desperate message through the ether.

Tamarith, I'm in trouble. Please—send me images of your location, quickly, I need to know what it looks like where you are.

The raging current tossed the boat around with relentless fury. All Vidarh's attention focussed on maintaining contact with Tamarith, and even his finely-tuned powers could not prevent the craft from capsizing. Gasping as he hit the icy flood, he struck out with his arms in desperation, and tried to keep the watery demons from pulling him under.

Two minds united against a common foe. Two hearts afraid to show their love: Long ago Tamarith fell in love with a man she can never have, and is convinced she will never love another. However, she cannot help but be intrigued by a handsome stranger whose psychic powers exceed even her own.

Vidarh seeks only to find his true purpose in life and to win the regard of his father, who eschews his son’s psychic abilities. Thrown together by a common threat to their planet, then torn apart by an evil greater than any they could have imagined, can Vidarh save the lovely Nifl woman who has captivated him, before it is too late?

Will Tamarith and Vidarh overcome the deadly enemy who threatens to destroy all they know and love? Will they find the happiness they both seek? Or are they fated to live their lives alone?

  1. Sounds like some serious trouble here. I hope he can get through alive.

    1. Yes, he'ss in a tight spot all right. He does have a trick or two up his arm though!

  2. Doesn't sound like a good place for a swim. (Sounds like he should have looked for an alternate route. Doesn't he know you should never drive (or paddle) into flooded streams?)

    1. LOL, I don't think he had a lot of choice! :) Let's hope he's a good swimmer! Thanks for stopping by.

  3. Maybe he should have concentrated on the boat rather than calling her.

    1. Hi Aurora - actually she's his only hope of getting out of this situation alive! (The telepathy is very important!)

  4. Uh oh! A truly perilous situation! I've been dumped from a capsizing raft while whitewater rafting. Your details just gave me a flashback!

    1. Ooh, sorry about that Teresa, you can obviously identify with Vidarh's panic then! :)

  5. This certainly is a perilous route he's taken! I love the descriptions and the inevitability of him getting dunked. Great snippet!

  6. Thanks Veronica - so glad you enjoyed it!

  7. If you toss down your paddle in whitewater, you're going to get dunked psi powers or not!

  8. Absolutely Ed - what was he thinking! :)

  9. Yuck! Chills. I hate demons, especially watery ones.

    1. Yes, I don't think Vidarh is too keen on them either! LOL

  10. I like the action, and water demons are unique!

  11. Action packed snippet! Great snippet!
