#SundaySnippets, #WeekendWarriors, 'Dancing With Fate' "You know I am betrothed"

Hello fellow Snippeteers and readers.  Welcome to my Weekend Warriors post. I'm continuing  with another snippet from my fantasy novella, Dancing With Fate. Thank you to everyone who's been following my snippets so far, and been kind enough to comment.

BACKGROUND:
Having fulfilled the mission set by Apollo, Terpsichore the muse of dance is preparing to return to Olympus when she meets the mysterious Myrddin. Unaware of her goddess status, he invites her to share a meal with him and falls asleep by the campfire. She is lured towards a host of glimmering, evil red lights, and although she senses the danger, she is now without her powers and has no means of resisting them. Myrddin rescues her and holds her in his arm. This is a few passges on from last week's snippet .

SNIPPET (as usual, some creative punctuation to comply with 10 sentence rule)

Once more, his arms enfolded her. She felt the touch of his lips against her hair.

She tingled from head to foot, and a sweet ache throbbed deep within her. She molded her body to his, her breasts burning against his bare chest. Never before had she felt this way when a man kissed her...never had she wanted any man so much, never had she felt so nearly mortal. She felt his arousal, and closed her eyes in surrender. Then she heard his faint, ragged intake of breath as he ceased the kiss and released her.

Gently, he removed her hands from around his neck, holding them in both of his.

"I'm sorry, Cora. This is wrong."

If someone had slid a knife between her ribs the pain could not have been more intense, she closed her eyes, not wanting him to see the hurt in them.

"You know I am betrothed," he went on. "Forgive me. It was just...I was so relieved the Ellylldan didn't take you."

His mind is set on the dangerous task that lies before him, and the woman he has sworn to save. I'm currently sharing excerpts from Children Of The Mist the second book in
The Destiny Trilogy. This is set on Niflheim, a planet close to the heart of Jess, who features in the first book. The heroine is one of her closeat friends, Tamarith.

Thanks so much to everyone who has been following this series, and left comments xx

This snippet carries on a bit further from last week's snippet which you can read
HERE

Vidarh is on his way to Gladsheim, the capital city of the icy planet Niflheim. A telepath, like all Nifls, he is being guided by Tamarith, through the treacherous mountain passages. (A little licence with punctuation to keep within the sentence limit.)

Vidarh noticed several gigantic, human-like statues on the banks as he passed, but had no time to contemplate or admire them. Rounding a bend, he came upon a wall of water ahead, cascading from the roof in a fury of white froth. The torrent boiled and raced. He gritted his teeth as he headed into the maelstrom, there was no way he could control the boat's frantic motions as it heaved and bucked like an unbroken colt. He threw down the paddle, gripped the sides of the vessel, and sent a desperate message through the ether.

Tamarith, I'm in trouble. Please—send me images of your location, quickly, I need to know what it looks like where you are.

The raging current tossed the boat around with relentless fury. All Vidarh's attention focussed on maintaining contact with Tamarith, and even his finely-tuned powers could not prevent the craft from capsizing. Gasping as he hit the icy flood, he struck out with his arms in desperation, and tried to keep the watery demons from pulling him under.

BLURB
Two minds united against a common foe. Two hearts afraid to show their love: Long ago Tamarith fell in love with a man she can never have, and is convinced she will never love another. However, she cannot help but be intrigued by a handsome stranger whose psychic powers exceed even her own.

Vidarh seeks only to find his true purpose in life and to win the regard of his father, who eschews his son’s psychic abilities. Thrown together by a common threat to their planet, then torn apart by an evil greater than any they could have imagined, can Vidarh save the lovely Nifl woman who has captivated him, before it is too late?

Will Tamarith and Vidarh overcome the deadly enemy who threatens to destroy all they know and love? Will they find the happiness they both seek? Or are they fated to live their lives alone?

#WeekendWritingWarriors -Snippet Sunday - Eight Sentence Sunday

Before I start this week's post I just want to reach out to everyone who was or is about to be in Irma's path. We are so lucky here in the UK, with no such extremes of weather, however much we may complain about it sometimes.

I hope you will stay safe and that the damage to property and possessions will not be too great. Possessions and even buildings can be replaced  - but lives cannot. Do what ever you can to be safe as the hurricane rages- my thoughts and prayers are with you.

After walking for so long he began to think the tunnel he followed led nowhere, the luminosity grew stronger, and the passage opened out into a large amphitheatre. The light reflected back from the walls revealed seats, formed out of pale green stone, arranged in tiers forming a semi-circle. At one end was a pool, shimmering in the soft light. Multi-colored stalactites glistened like jewelled candelabra from the roof of the cave. At the far end was a high dais flanked on each side by another passage.

Vidarh paused for only a moment to take in the beauty around him.. He was familiar with the Conference Chamber of the community of Gladsheim. His mind had been there many times but this was the first time he had physically entered the place. Instructed to take the left fork, he progressed along the labyrinths, noting the downward slope of the passage.

Weekend Writing Warrior - Sunday Snippet

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warrior and 8 Sentence Sunday, the weekly hops for everyone who loves to read and write! This is a new venture for me but such a great idea -

Writers share an 8 to 10 sentence snippet on Sunday each week. Be sure to visit the other writers - they're listed Below:

My series 'The Destiny Trilogy' started with one character - Kerry Marchant. Each book is a complete story but features some of the same characters. The series began with 'Starquest' and the third in the trilogy is 'Beloved Enemy (currently nominated for a RONE Award😊)  Although Kerry is not the main character Starquest, he is my favourite. He doesn't feature in the second book but stars in the third one! I thought it would be nice to introduce him to folk who may not have read the books, so here are ten sentences from Starquest.

(Jess, the main character has just been rescued from her stricken starship by the Destiny)

"When we received your distress signal, we ran a computer analysis. The conclusions were obvious. The only option was for you to abandon her (the ship) before her drive reached critical.”

The stern-faced man turned to look at her now. His blue eyes, cool as gunmetal, fixed on her until she felt herself blush under his relentless scrutiny. He smiled slowly, as if unaccustomed to such an action. He was, in fact, very attractive when he smiled. “Welcome aboard.”

The commander nodded in his direction. “Let me introduce Kerry Marchant, second-in-command.”

Although Jess still could not help feeling a little suspicious, she managed to smile back at him with a degree of confidence she did not feel.
